Moyes:terrible goals

David Moyes feels Manchester United
conceded 'terrible goals' on his return to
Everton and says missing out on the top
four hurts.
United dominated possession for long
periods at Goodison Park on Sunday, but
saw costly errors condemn them to a 2-0
defeat - meaning they have lost home and
away to Everton for the first time in 44
years.
Moyes - in his first game back on the blue
half of Merseyside since bringing an 11-
year tenure to a close - admits his current
employers did themselves few favours as
they fell two goals behind by the interval.
Phil Jones' handling of a Romelu Lukaku
shot allowed Leighton Baines to open the
scoring from the penalty spot, before
Alexander Buttner played Kevin Mirallas
onside and the Belgian crashed home a
second from a tight angle.
Moyes told Sky Sports on another
disappointing day for United: "We gave
away two terrible goals.
"Prior to that we passed the ball really
well, kept the ball, had great control of the
game. What we couldn't do was make
enough chances.
"We had a great control and we got done
by two stupid decisions - a stupid decision
to dive in front of the ball for one of them
- two poor goals to give away.
"I thought we played very well in the first
half. We came in 2-0 down but had been
passing the ball really well.
"But we didn't have a final through-pass at
times, we didn't have a final finish when
they came - there weren't very many of
them. That was the disappointing part,
that we couldn't do that bit in the final
third."
It is now mathematically impossible for
United - who crashed out of the UEFA
Champions League at the quarter-final
stage to Bayern Munich this season - to
return to European football's top table in
2014/15.
Asked if that deals a painful blow to all of
those connected with the Old Trafford
outfit, Moyes said: "It does because it's
part of this club to be in it.
"We'll do everything we can to get
ourselves back in it as quickly as we can."
A summer rebuilding project has been
mooted for some time and Moyes claims
the groundwork is already being put in
place to ensure that United fare
considerably better in his second season at
the helm than they have in his first.
He added: "We've already done that and
we're doing that behind the scenes just
now.
"We'll try and do everything we possibly
can to get a team which is capable of
winning better than we have done
recently."
