Burnley returned to the Premier League
after a four-year absence after beating
Wigan 2-0 at Turf Moor on Easter Monday
to claim the second automatic promotion
spot.
Goals from Ashley Barnes (22) and Michael
Kightly (42) earned the crucial victory,
which meant third-placed Derby could not
catch the men from Turf Moor.
Barnes was in the right place at the right
time to volley in Dean Marney's first-time
cross from the right to put the hosts ahead
midway through the first half.
And Kightly doubled the Clarets' lead just
three minutes before the break with a
free-kick from the right which evaded
everyone in the box and flew into the top
corner of the net.
