Di Natale ends blistering career with hat-trick

Hmmm, after a successful career the prolific forward Di Natalie has decided to call it quit at a ripe age.

Antonio Di Natale scored a hat trick to help Udinese draw 3-3 against Sampdoria in its last Serie A match on Saturday, then announced he was going back on his decision to retire this year.

The 36-year-old said a few months ago he would hang up his boots at the end of the season, but has since changed his mind.

"It's a pity the season is ending now, as I am in good physical shape and enjoying myself," Di Natale said. "Let's hope I continue like this.

"At the start of the season, the whole team struggled to do what we'd been able to in three years together. But you weigh things up at the end, and I still got 17 goals in the league."

Stefano Okaka headed Sampdoria into an early lead, but Di Natale leveled with a magnificent free kick into the top near corner, and the former Italy striker side- footed in Roberto Pereyra's cross in the 33rd after good work by his teammate.

The match changed in two second-half minutes. First Eder beat the offside trap to roll Okaka's through ball past Udinese goalkeeper Zeljko Brkic, before Roberto
Soriano gave Samp the lead from a tight angle.

Di Natale completed his hat trick in
bizarre fashion two minutes from time after Sampdoria substitute Pawel Wszolek sent a backpass from the halfway line straight to the Udinese forward for his 193rd Serie A goal.

Robben inspires Bayern to Pokal triumph

Bayern Munich sealed a second successive domestic double with
a 2-0 win over Borussia Dortmund in the DFB-Pokal final after extra-time.

Netherlands winger Robben popped up in the 107th minute at the Olympiastadion in Berlin to set the Bavarians on the way to a
fourth trophy in their first season under thestewardship of former Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola.

Dortmund pressed in vain for an equaliser, but the match was settled in injury timey when Muller broke clear to grab a second
for Bayern.

Their success was not without fortune, as Dortmund were denied a goal midway through the second half of normal time when a header from Mats Hummels appeared to cross the line.

Victory for Bayern was also somewhat marred by an injury to Germany captain Philipp Lahm, who limped off during the first half to place his participation in next
month's World Cup into doubt.

Guardiola has faced criticism since his side's Champions League semi-final exit to Real Madrid last month, but can now point to the retention of each of Germany's
premier domestic prizes.

There was almost a goal inside three minutes as Dortmund goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller inadvertently kept out Muller's near-post drive.

Weidenfeller also produced a comfortable save from a tame Robben effort as Bayern dictated play for large spells early on.

However, Bayern suffered a blow when Lahm was withdrawn through injury in front of watching national coach Joachim Low and
replaced by Franck Ribery.

Moments of quality were rare in a cagey opening period, although 18-year-old midfielder Pierre Hojbjerg did go close to opening the scoring for Bayern two minutes before the interval as he powered a shot wide from Ribery's pull back.

Dortmund responded almost immediately by carving out their best opportunity of the.first half, but Robert Lewandowski - playing
against the team he will join for next season - fired high and wide after cutting inside Hojbjerg.

Bayern continued to carry the greater threat and Weidenfeller made a fine reaction stop to deny Muller from close range 10 minutes after the break, following
good work down the left from Ribery.

However, Dortmund were left aggrieved in the 64th minute as a far-post header from Hummels looked to cross the line before
being cleared by Dante. As Dortmund's players launched animated appeals, the referee refused to award the goal.

Jurgen Klopp's side duly grew in stature and their opponents were grateful to Manuel Neuer when the goalkeeper pulled off his first meaningful save, parrying Oliver Kirch's long-range drive.

Yet Bayern remained a dangerous attacking threat and Weidenfeller was soon called into action again, denying Robben with an improvised save with his chest.

Neither team was able to find a
breakthrough in normal time, although Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang almost found the opener at the start of the first
additional period, curling into the side- netting from just inside the 18-yard box.

It was to be Robben who claimed the.decisive goal, slotting home at the back post from Jerome Boateng's cross to finally break the deadlock.

Marco Reus saw a late effort deflected over the crossbar by Boateng, but there was to be no way back for Dortmund, who
conceded a second in injury time when Muller broke free on the counterattack before rounding Weidenfeller and tucking into an empty net.

Martino decides to leave Barça

Gerardo Martino has revealed he will leave his role as Barcelona coach, by mutual consent, after the club missed out on the Liga title.

The 51-year-old saw his side surrender their league title to Atletico Madrid after the two sides played out a 1-1 draw at Camp Nou on Saturday.

Needing a victory to make it five
league wins in six years, Barcelona saw Alexis Sanchez's first-half opener cancelled out by Atletico defender Diego Godin four minutes into the second period.

Barca's failure to retain their title
means they end the season without a major trophy for the first time since 2007-08, a campaign that was followed by the dismissal of Frank Rijkaard.

Speculation was rife about Martino's future in the closing weeks of the season and the coach put an end to that on Saturday, announcing he would step away from coaching duties.

"I deeply regret not having achieved the goals that this club has always been set and achieved," Martino said.

Martino was appointed Barcelona
manager in July, replacing Tito
Vilanova, who resigned to fight an
ultimately unsuccessful battle with
throat cancer.

Luis Enrique, who announced his
impending departure from Celta Vigo on Friday, is thought to be the leading candidate for the role.

Arsene Wenger's Arsenal fight back to beat Hull and clinch the FA cup title breaking their 9

An extra-time goal from Aaron Ramsey saw Arsenal come from two-goals down to beat Hull City 3-2 in a scintillating FA Cup final.

That came after a remarkable opening to the game which saw Hull race into a two- goal lead within nine-minutes.

James Chester side-footed home from a Tom Huddlestone drive before captain Curtis Davies fired into the net from an acute angle after Alex Bruce's header had
hit the post.

Arsenal did not have to wait too long to.get back into the game as on 17-minutes Santi Cazorla curled home a superb free-.kick from 30-yards.

Hull looked like they might just hold out but with 19-minutes left they failed to deal with a corner and Laurent Koscielny turned and levelled from inside the six-yard box.

But then with penalties just 11-minutes away - Arsenal broke Hull hearts as Ramsey fired home low past Allan McGregor after great work from Olivier Giroud.

The win ends Arsenal's own trophy drought as they claimed their first silverware in nine years.

Athletico madrid draws Barça to break the jinx

Atletico Madrid have been crowned
champions of La Liga following a dramatic draw in the final fixture against Barcelona at Camp Nou on
Saturday.

Barcelona needed a win to claim the title, while a draw was enough for Atletico as Diego Simeone's side went into the game with a three-point lead over Gerardo Martino's men.

Atleti were hit with a double blow early on as first Diego Costa and then Arda Turan limped off with injuries, but the Rojiblancos
continued to compete in an evenly
disputed first half.

But almost out of nothing, Alexis Sanchez blasted Barca into the lead with a fierce angled drive after 33 minutes.

Atletico started the second half with a bang, however, and after David Villa had hit the post, Diego Godin headed home from a
corner to make it 1-1 after 49 minutes.

Lionel Messi had the ball in the net later in the half, but the Argentine's strike was correctly ruled out for offside and Atletico
held on to claim La Liga by a three-point margin - their first title since 1996.

Man city fined heavily

UEFA has fined Manchester City 60m euros (£49m) and restricted their Champions League squad to 21 for next season following the breach of Financial Fair Play rules.

The club owned by Sheikh Mansour
snatched the Premier League title last weekend but will have to curb their spending in the transfer market for the next two seasons and freeze their wage structure in order to escape further punishment.

French giants Paris St Germain, who were charged with similar breaches, have been hit with the same punishment.

Should the clubs successfully fulfil the operational and financial measures agreed with the UEFA Club Financial Control Body,
they will be able to reclaim 40m euros of the fine and have the squad restriction lifted in time for the 2015/2016 Champions League.

Manchester City have accepted the
sanctions, which also include a salary freeze on their Champions League squad for the next two seasons, and to "significantly limit spending in the transfer market for seasons 2014/2015 and 2015/2016", said UEFA.

A statement on the City website read:
"Manchester City Football Club can confirm that at the end of the current financial year (May 31st) it is on course to financially break even, as planned.

"Operating with no debt, the club is
realising its football and commercial opportunities whilst continuing unprecedented investments in both youth development and the local community.

"From the outset, the club has engaged with UEFA in its introduction of the Financial Fair Play Regulations in good faith
and without prejudice and in a transparent and collaborative manner.

"The club's position is that it is beholden upon UEFA and the European football establishment to ensure the same.

"The club can confirm that it has been in discussions with UEFA over the last month - in relation to the application of Financial Fair Play regulations - as has been widely
reported and communicated by UEFA.

"At the heart of those discussions is a fundamental disagreement between the club's and UEFA's respective interpretations of the FFP regulations on players purchased before 2010.

"The club believes it has complied with the FFP regulations on this and all other matters. The club's expenditure on new players for the upcoming summer transfer window, on top of income from players it might sell, will be limited to 60m euros."

Galatasaray, Trabzonspor and Bursaspor from Turkey, Russian sides Zenit St Petersburg, Anzhi Makhachkala and Rubin Kazan, plus Levski Sofia from Bulgaria have also failed FFP and are awaiting their fate.

Park Ji-Sung retires

SUWON, South Korea (AP) — Park Ji-
sung, a former Manchester United
regular and one of the stars of South Korea's run to the 2002 World Cup semifinals, has announced his retirement from top-flight football.

The 33-year-old Park played on loan with PSV Eindhoven from Queens Park Rangers this past season. He represented South Korea in three World Cups, scoring
at each tournament, and led the team to the second round at South Africa in 2010.

In all, he played more than 100
internationals in a professional career stretching back to 2000.

A high-energy, hard-working midfielder, Park followed manager Guus Hiddink from the national team to Eindhoven after the 2002 World Cup, then became the first South Korean to make an impact
in the Premier League after signing with Manchester United in 2005.

Terry signs contract extension

Chelsea captain John Terry has signed a new contract at Stamford Bridge after agreeing terms on a one-year deal.

Terry's contract, along with that of
experienced duo Frank Lampard and Ashley Cole, was set to expire this summer.

The 33-year-old is understood to have originally been negotiating for a longer contract with the club he has been at since the age of 14.

But Chelsea have a strict policy of only offering one-year deals to players above the age of 30 and Terry has agreed to the 12-month extension.

Speaking to the club's official website, Terry said: "I'm delighted to have signed an extension to my contract with Chelsea taking me into my 20th year with the club.

'I'd like to thank the fans and club for their continued support, and the manager who was instrumental for me the last season.'

Chief Executive Ron Gourlay added: "We are very pleased John, who is an undoubted Chelsea legend, will continue to lead the team next season, as he has done
for so many years with unrivalled
achievement.

"Both Chelsea FC and John have been clear throughout that we wanted his outstanding career at the club to continue, and it is
important the matter has been concluded so soon after the end of the season, allowing us to look forward to and plan for 2014/15."

Despite his age, Terry made 47
appearances for Chelsea last season and was a key factor in seeing the club concede only 27 league goals - the best defensive
record in the Premier League.

Terry has won 12 major trophies during his 16-year senior career with Chelsea in.addition to scooping a host of personal
accolades during that time.

QPR 90mins away from EPL promotion

QPR fought back from a goal down to beat Wigan 2-1 in extra-time and book their place in the Sky Bet Championship play-off final alongside Derby.

Charlie Austin took his tally for the season to 20 goals with a second-half equaliser and an extra-time winner to leave Harry Redknapp's side potentially 90 minutes
from a return to the Premier League.

Wigan, who were held 0-0 at home in the first leg, had led from the ninth minute when James Perch prodded in a cross from James McClean.

Rangers squandered chance after chance to.level but were thrown a lifeline in the 72nd minute when Junior Hoilett won a penalty which Austin converted.

And six minutes into extra time the former Burnley frontman struck again to book a winner-takes-all showdown with Derby at the end of the month.

Yet Wigan had stunned the hosts by taking an early lead when Perch darted in front of Rangers skipper Clint Hill to get to McClean's centre first and poke the ball home.

Clearly a man for the big occasion, the goal was only Perch's second of the season - the other being the winner against Manchester City in the FA Cup which did send Wigan to Wembley.

McClean could have doubled the lead when he latched onto Gary O'Neil's woeful backpass but instead of rounding the advancing Rob Green, he blatantly dived
over the Rangers keeper and got a
deserved yellow card.

Green then did well to keep out a low drive from Shaun Maloney but, as the first.half wore on, Rangers gradually took control. However, they were continually frustrated
as Scott Carson palmed away Niko
Kranjcar's fierce drive and Austin's header was cleared off the line by McClean.

In the second half McClean had a chance to wrap the game up for Wigan when he charged through again, this time staying on his feet, but having over-run the ball he
could only find the outside of the post from an acute angle.

Instead the hosts' pressure finally told as Hoilett attempted a one-two with substitute Bobby Zamora on the edge of the area, only for Gary Caldwell to halt the winger's run with a clumsy challenge
allowing Austin to step up and equalise.

Zamora almost won it in normal time when he held off two Wigan defenders before lobbing onto the roof of the net.

But the former England international had a hand in the winner when he lifted the ball into Austin's path and watched his strike partner tuck it past Carson.

Rangers survived a late scare when Rob Kiernan's shot was deflected inches wide in stoppage time and they held out to secure a passage to Wembley and keep their promotion dream alive.

At least 15 dead in DR Congo stadium stampede

KINSHASA, Congo (AP) — At least 15
people were killed in a stampede at a soccer stadium in Congo, government officials said.

The stampede happened amid a playoff match between two popular Congolese teams, V. Club TP Mazembe, according to a statement from the Interior Ministry read on national television late Sunday.

Gov. Andre Kimbuta said at least 21
other people were injured during the melee that followed.

U.N.-backed Radio Okapi, citing
witnesses, said police had fired tear gas after angry fans threw objects onto the field in the final minutes of the match.

Altercations have previously erupted when V. Club played TP Mazembe.

Sanctions had been imposed last season on the teams after a match between them in the city of Lubumbashi, Radio Okapi reported.

More than 20 people were killed on April 25 in ithe town of Kikwit in southwest Congo when generators failed during a festival honoring a popular singer, plunging the stadium into darkness and causing a stampede.

Aston villa for sale

American owner Randy Lerner has
confirmed that he has put Aston Villa up for sale.

Lerner bought Villa from Doug Ellis in 2006 but there has been uncertainty over his future throughout a difficult campaign
which ended in a lowly 15th-place finish after Sunday's 3-0 defeat at Tottenham Hotspur.

And Lerner has now declared that he believes it is the right moment for the club to sell and look for new owners who can push them forward.

In a statement published on the club's website, Lerner said: "I feel that now is the time for me to look for new ownership and thus new leadership.

"Several weeks back I said that following the end of the season I would clarify my future role with the club and address what had become seemingly constant rumours of a sale.

"I owe it to Villa to move on, and look for fresh, invigorated leadership, if in my heart I feel I can no longer do the job.

"I have asked the world of (manager) Paul Lambert and (chief executive) Paul Faulkner and they have both delivered selflessly.

"On a personal level it is time for me to get on with other aspects of my career, following a sale.

"On a practical level, the club will continue with its normal operations and plans for the summer.

"I've no doubt that the core staff at both Villa Park and BMH (Bodymoor Heath Training Ground), to whom I owe a massive
debt of friendship and loyalty, will continue to guide and protect the club through this period of transition according to their
collective sense of professional pride and long term service to Villa.

"Finally, in light of the above, I have engaged Bank of America Merrill Lynch to advise on the sale of Aston Villa."

Lerner, who owns NFL franchise Cleveland Browns, paid £60m for the club in 2006 and has since invested £200m.

For three successive seasons under
manager Martin O'Neill - through to May 2010 - Villa finished sixth in the Premier League table, before slipping three spots the following campaign.

However, each of the last three have witnessed tense battles to avoid relegation with finishes of 16th-15th-15th.

After eight years owning a high-profile club in the United Kingdom, Lerner admitted that his time in football has become increasingly difficult, adding: "I have come
to know well that fates are fickle in the business of English football.

"And I feel that I have pushed mine well past the limit. The last several seasons have been week-in, week-out battles and having now come through this last season
unfortunately limping amidst very
meaningful injuries and constant sale rumours."

Back in August 2006, shortly after
purchasing the Villans, Lerner said: "It is my belief that Aston Villa can compete at the highest level within the Premiership and in Europe."

The high spot was reaching the final of the League Cup in 2010 when, under O'Neill, they lost 2-1 at Wembley to Manchester
United.

Cole Ashley retires from.international football

Ashley Cole has retired from international football after being told he would not be in England's World Cup squad.

Chelsea left-back Cole, 33, has struggled for playing time with his club this season, with Spaniard Cesar Azpilicueta having been preferred by Jose Mourinho.

Although he has been involved more towards the end of the campaign, Cole has been supplanted by Everton's Leighton
Baines and, most likely, Southampton teenager Luke Shaw.

The decision brings an end to a lengthy international career for Cole, who made his England debut against Albania in 2001 and
has won 107 caps since.

Cole, who is out of contract this summer as well, wrote on his Twitter feed: "I got the call from Roy and agree England team
should be about the young players. I think it best I retire from England team now.

"We have a great manager and team and I wish them only success. I will be supporting them like a true fan. Thanks to everyone for everything.

"Baines and Shaw are great players, proved this season, and are the future of this country, it was a pleasure to get 107 caps."

Roy Hodgson responded to Cole's
announcement by saying: "Among many difficult decisions I have had to make for my squad, not selecting Ashley was one of the hardest.

"To amass more than a century of caps was a staggering achievement and he deserves enormous credit for the desire and brilliance that has shone through over the
years he has represented his country.

"Of course I must respect his decision to retire. He has been one of England's finest players but I want to look to the future. It
has been one of the hardest decisions of my career."

The full-back positions have been subject of plenty of conjecture ahead of Hodgson's squad announcement on Monday
afternoon, with Cole's position in question and the decision to leave out Tottenham right-back Kyle Walker.

Walker has been struggling with a pelvic.injury and with Hodgson's medical staff fearing he will not be 100% fit and deciding not to risk him, it could be.Manchester United's Phil Jones - also under
an injury cloud - heading to Brazil as a back-up to likely starter Glen Johnson.

Cole's omission suggests Hodgson is happy to take a youthful squad to Brazil and could mean a call for Everton midfielder Ross Barkley, who enjoyed a productive end to
the season.

Liverpool winger Raheem Sterling and midfielder Jordan Henderson, Arsenal forward Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Southampton winger Adam Lallana - all lacking international experience - are also
in contention for the 23-man squad.

The young players chosen will gain
experience looking ahead to Euro 2016 - a tournament where England stand a much better chance of doing well - but Hodgson
has warned they will be expected to make an impact at the World Cup too.

"Euro 2016 is in the back of my mind, but not in the forefront," he said.

"If there are young players in the squad it will be because they can do a job now.

"It will then be a bonus in 2016 as they will be experienced and hopefully that will serve us in good stead, but I don't intend to put them in the squad because of
2016."

Ibra wins award

PARIS (AP) — Paris Saint-Germain striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been voted the French league's player of the year by his fellow professionals for the second
straight season.

Ibrahimovic beat off competition from teammates Thiago Silva and Thiago Motta and Monaco midfielder James Rodriguez
to win the top award in French football on Sunday.

The Sweden striker has scored 40 goals in all competitions for PSG this season.

The Parisian club clinched the French league title on Wednesday.

Manchester City clinch EPL title

MANCHESTER, England (AP) —
Manchester City won the Premier League for the second time in three seasons on Sunday, completing its campaign with a
comfortable 2-0 victory over West Ham that lacked any of the drama of its previous title.

Unlike the stoppage-time comeback
required in the 2012 title decider, goals either side of halftime by Samir Nasri and Vincent Kompany provided a more serene end to what had been an exhilarating season.

"You can't repeat what happened last time," City goalkeeper Joe Hart said.
"This year, we've really come on strong at the end when we needed to."

Two years ago, City won the title on goal difference ahead of neighbor Manchester United after coming from behind to beat Queens Park Rangers on the final day.

Sunday's victory, though, meant
Liverpool's 2-1 win over Newcastle at Anfield was meaningless as City finished two points above the Merseyside club.

As soon as the final whistle was blown, thousands of fans flooded onto the Etihad Stadium pitch, setting off blue flares. For a club that has spent so much time in the shadow of United — last year's champion — it was just the fourth
time in its 134-year history that fans could celebrate a league title.

Just 15 years ago, City was playing in the third tier of English football, but the club's fortunes were transformed after the influx of Abu Dhabi cash following a 2008 takeover.

Making this victory all the sweeter is the fact that United, which beat City to the title by 11 points last May, ended this campaign in seventh place after imploding in the post-Alex Ferguson era.

Although City spent just 15 days at the summit during a campaign when the lead changed hands 25 times, Manuel Pellegrini's side surged to the top when it mattered most. The 60-year-old Chilean is ending his first season in English football as a double winner,
having already won the League Cup
victory over Sunderland in March.

However, the league title looked out of reach for City just weeks ago after losing to Liverpool at Anfield. However, Liverpool collapsed toward the end with a loss to Chelsea and a draw at Crystal
Palace which meant City only needed a draw at the Etihad to secure the title.

But after an edgy start, Nasri scored with a shot from outside the area in the 39th minute and Vincent Kompany added the
second from close range shortly after the break to let fans celebrate for much of the second half.

"Liverpool's game against Chelsea, I
think that's the twist of the season,"
Nasri said.
All City required was a draw, but after an edgy start this energetic and attacking team seized on the opportunity to finish the season in style. Against an uninspiring West Ham, City was in complete control, calmly knocking the ball around the pitch.

However easily City unpicked the West Ham defense, finding a route to goal was proving more difficult. David Silva, so dynamic in this title-winning side, lashed the ball over from distance and Aleksandar Kolarov had a long-range strike tipped over by goalkeeper Adrian.

But the goal that settled nerves in the stands came in the 39th minute, with Yaya Toure teeing up Nasri, who took two touches before curling the shot into the net off the inside of the post.
Although Silva was denied by the
woodwork in stoppage time, City's
second came just four minutes into the second half. From a corner, the ball bounced off striker Edin Dzeko, and the unmarked Kompany swept in City's 102nd league goal this season from close
range.

The captain slid across the pitch in
celebration, and the party truly started in the stadium. Unlike the rollercoaster season finale against Queens Park Rangers here two years ago, it was job done for City.

West Ham was never going to spoil these celebrations, and City is at the pinnacle of English football once again. The challenge now is retaining the trophy for the first time, and replicating the
electrifying domestic form in Europe to conquer the Champions League.

These title celebrations, though, could be short-lived in the City boardroom, with UEFA on the verge of imposing sanctions
on the club for overspending in breach of, Financial Fair Play rules.

Russian league game abandoned after fan unrest

ST. PETERSBURG, Russia (AP) — A match between Zenit St. Petersburg and Dynamo Moscow on Sunday was abandoned after Zenit fans invaded the pitch and one of them attacked an
opposition player.

Dynamo led 4-2 in St. Petersburg when the pitch invasion began in the 87th minute, a result that would hit Zenit's hopes of winning the Russian Premier League title if it stands.

Broadcasts showed one of the fans
running up to Dynamo defender Vladimir Granat and punching him in the head from behind.

Granat has a head injury, Dynamo's
sporting director Guram Adzhoev was quoted as saying in local media.

Granat has four caps for Russia and is considered a contender to play at the World Cup next month.

Zenit expressed "deep regret" at the behavior of its fans and said it was working with police to identify Granat's attacker.

"The club understands that fans have the right to be disappointed and displeased with the team's play," Zenit said in a statement.

"But hooliganism and disorder are not acceptable in any case."
Yuri Chebotaryov, the Russian Football Union delegate assigned to the game, was quoted by the Sport Express newspaper as saying he believed the unrest had been "planned" by Zenit fans.

"The fans were ready to go onto the
pitch, regardless of how events
unfolded," he said.

It remains unclear whether the score at the time the game was abandoned will be considered the final result.

The Russian Football Union's disciplinary committee, which rules on such matters, meets each Wednesday.

Earlier, the game was briefly delayed when Zenit fans let off flares and smoke bombs, severely reducing visibility at the Petrovsky stadium.

For now, Zenit has slipped to second in the league standings behind CSKA Moscow and could fall to third later Sunday.

In 2012, a match between Zenit and Dynamo was abandoned when a flare thrown from the Zenit fan sector injured Dynamo goalkeeper Anton Shunin.

Sunday's pitch invasion is the first major case of unrest involving Zenit fans this season, although other top Russian clubs have seen disorder, four years before the country hosts the World Cup.

In October, Spartak Moscow fans clashed with police during a cup game at which a swastika flag was also displayed.

Around 40 fans were reportedly arrested.
Defending Russian champion CSKA was ordered to play its next European game behind closed doors in February after UEFA charged the club over racist
behavior by its fans in the Champions League for the second time this season.

Oviedo to miss World Cup

Everton defender Bryan Oviedo will not face England at the World Cup this summer after it was confirmed he will not recover
from his broken leg in time.

The Costa Rica full-back broke his tibia and fibula playing for Everton in their FA Cup fourth-round victory at Stevenage in January.

Oviedo was immediately ruled out for the rest of the season but was making good progress to be fit in time for the World Cup in Brazil.

However, Costa Rica team doctor Alejandro Ramirezhas confirmed he will need more recovery time and will not be lining up against England in the final Group D game
on June 24.

"Today he was told to do some physical activity on a hard surface and showed some pains during the activity," said Ramirezhas.

"It means the player will be in no physical nor medical shape to play the World Cup."

Costa Rica coach Jorge Luis Pinto added: "Bryan was an important player, useful in our formation, where he fitted in very well.

"The squad are hurt as Bryan had fitted in very well, I hope his recovery happens in the best possible way for him."

Oviedo himself also confirmed on Twitter that he will miss the World Cup, tweeting: "I just got the news. I gave my best, but I can not be at the World Cup. I know my team are going to do a great job. Thanks
for the support!"

Zanetti bids San Siro farewell

Javier Zanetti bid farewell to San Siro in style as two goals from Rodrigo Palacio helped Inter to a confident 4-1 Serie A win over Lazio.

Both sides came into the clash
needing points in their quests for
European qualification, but all the
attention was on the most decorated player in Inter's history.

Fourty-year-old Zanetti, who is
Argentina's most-capped player with 145 outings, has lifted 16 trophies with the club since joining from Banfield in 1995, but his 857th appearance for Inter had to wait until the second half.

Initially the hosts appeared to be in
trouble as Giuseppe Biava put Lazio
ahead in the second minute, but Inter battled back and ultimately went into the break 3-1 up thanks to two goals from Palacio and Mauro Icardi's strike.

Zanetti was introduced to much
fanfare just after the break and
although Lazio crafted numerous
opportunities in the second period,
Hernanes sealed the result against his former club with a stunning effort from range.

Victory means Inter are all but
guaranteed a spot in the UEFA Europa League, with defeat for Lazio ending their hopes of a top-six finish.

With an expectant home crowd
displaying banners of thanks for
Zanetti, coach Walter Mazzarri was
greeted with a frosty reception from
the home faithful as word of the
Argentinian's absence from the XI
spread.

And things got even worse for him in just the second minute as Lorik Cana headed Bruno Pereirinha's free-kick back across goal for Biava to prod in.

Lazio barely held the lead for five
minutes, however, as Palacio raced on to Mateo Kovacic's defence-splitting throughball and deftly poked a clever finish past Etrit Berisha.

Proceedings quietened down after a frantic start, but Kovacic produced another moment of magic in the 34th minute, delivering a delightful outside-
of-the-foot pass to Icardi, who coolly slotted home from inside the area.

Inter doubled their advantage just
three minutes later.
Yuto Nagatomo's left-wing cross
evaded the Lazio defence and Palacio duly stroked the ball beyond Berisha's reach.

The second half endured a muted start as the inevitable arrival of Zanetti was anticipated and Mazzarri finally unleashed his captain in the 52nd minute, drawing a thunderous ovation
from the crowd.

Lazio were in no mood to stand
around and appreciate the retiring
midfielder, however, Samir Handanovic denied Biava a second with an acrobatic save to his
right, before Balde Keita inexcusably sliced a half-volley well over the crossbar from 14 yards.

Lazio's pressure continued into the
final stages, but any threat of an
unlikely comeback was thwarted with 11 minutes to go as Hernanes rifled in an unstoppable left-footed effort from 20 yards.

Zanetti was the game's final focus as he consoled a supporter who had run onto the pitch and approached him - an act met with applause from all sides of San Siro as the emotional fan was escorted from the field.

Goodbye to a TRUE servant.

Mourinho digs at Suarez

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho believes Edin Dzeko, and not Luis Suarez, should have been the Premier League's player of the
season.

Mourinho has been a regular critic of the Liverpool striker, who won the PFA and Football Writers' Association awards, dubbing him as the king of penalties and
describing him as an "acrobatic swimming pool" diver.

And now he has stated his belief the player of the year should be either his Anfield team-mate Steven Gerrard or Manchester City striker Dzeko, who has scored some vital goals in his side's end-of- season run.

They will secure the title on Sunday with a point against West Ham and Mourinho feels the individual award winner should
come from the champions.

Mourinho said: "Luis Suarez is a very good player. They're not voting for a player who has no quality.

"(But) the profile of player who wins the player of the year is not the profile of player who used to win in English football 10, eight, six years ago.

"He bit (Chelsea's Branislav Ivanovic) not this season but the previous season. This is a different season. I'm not speaking about
one mistake that a man can have.

You don't have to be punished for the rest of your life if you make a mistake on the football pitch.

"(But) my player of the year would be always from the champions, in every condition.

"If the champion is Man City - they need a point - I would say a Man City player and if I have to choose one, I would choose Dzeko."

"The kind of player he is, he's not just a goalscorer. He assists, he plays, he behaves, he's fair, doesn't dive, doesn't try to put opponents in the stands with
accumulation of cards.

"He was the third (choice) striker at the beginning of the season. He was hidden behind his manager's first choices and when the team needed him in crucial moments of the season, I think he made the difference.

"In this moment I think he has 16 goals. Sixteen goals for the third striker is something spectacular."

Mourinho's praise for Gerrard even
included thinly veiled criticism of Suarez.

He added: "Tremendous cold blood as a penalty taker. He had lots of them but with every penalty he was there for the team too and some of them were crucial."
